Providing Counseling for Marriage and other Relationships

What is TAG?

Remember the childhood game of Tag? In that game, everybody had fun and nobody got hurt.

Adults play a similar game, called TAG, in which nobody has fun and everybody gets hurt.

In the childhood game, the goal was to not to be “IT”.  That’s how it is in the adult version, too!

TAG is what we do, 100 times a day, when we are trying not to be IT – when we are trying to avoid being wrong, criticized, blamed, or judged.

God commands that we live in powerfully right relationship with Him and with one another (Mt 22:34-40). When we play TAG, we do the opposite – we destroy relationships, in order not to be “IT”.

Our fear of being IT drives us to:

  • remain silent when we should speak the loving truth
  • blame others when we should acknowledge our mistakes
  • stay in our comfort zone when we should be responding to God’s call
  • deny our mistakes when we should be learning valuable lessons
  • isolate ourselves when we should be living in community
  • make other people feel bad when we should be lifting them up.

Whether we play TAG passively (remaining silent, to protect ourselves) or actively (blaming or criticizing others), the impact is the same – we do that which we do not want to do (Ro 7:19). Our words and actions become a poison (Jm 3:8) that slowly but surely kills the very heart of our relationships. In the end, we are left with the empty shell of a marriage, family, or friendship gone terribly wrong.

If you earnestly desire to turn from this path and to live in harmony, with God and all those with whom you are in conflict, you need to receive two gifts:

The Wisdom to See Clearly

The ability to see clearly is of critical importance.  It is a sign of true wisdom, an incredible gift (“blessed are the eyes that see what you see”, Luke 10:23), and the goal of every ministry (“I send you to open their eyes”, Acts 26:18).

Once you understand the game of TAG, your eyes will be opened and you will see clearly.  In your new wisdom, you will see how often people play the game, you will recognize the incredible  impact of the game, and you will know that you absolutely MUST use the gift of new vision that has been given to you, every time you minister to others.

The ability to see clearly will be the first blessing you receive, once you understand the game of TAG.

The Power to Change, Instantly

Your second blessing will be the gift of Godly power – the power to change your life, beginning this very moment.  True wisdom will set you free (John 8:32) from your past, fill you with the unlimited power (Psalms 29:4-11) of the Holy Spirit, and allow you to become a new creation (II Corinthians 5:17).

Our God is a God of transformation – He wants to start healing and changing your relationships, right now. Armed with your new knowledge and His awesome power, you will be able to  create the loving, peace-filled relationships your heart desires.

No more fighting.

No more settling for being roommates.

No more walking on eggshells.

This is the second gift that is waiting for you – the powerful gift of transformation.
